Update Available (2.0.1.3)

Posted by GEN3RIC at 5:02 am on July 2, 2010

When you start BC2CC, it will automagically update, so long as you don’t hit ‘skip’.  :)   I’ve been listening to your feedback very carefully, and have pushed out some minor updates to fix issues that you have all enthusiastically and promptly reported.  Here is what should be fixed, but of course if you’re experiencing otherwise, report it in the comment area.

Added features

  • Right click a player to give them a reserved slot.  Optionally, send them a notification of their newly granted slot.
  • When slaying a player from the context menu, you can send them a message telling them they were slayed by the admin. This can help avoid the server getting a bad reputation.
  • Both Add As Admin and Add to Reserved will be grayed out if they are already on the list.  No sense in doubling up efforts.
  • Added Rules to Auto Admin.  This can replace your PB tasks if you don’t mind a simpler solution.
    • It is currently limited to Say only while some kinks are worked out with the optional Yell version.
    • Players can access the rules at any time using !rules
    • Admins can send abusive players the rules by using the command /!rules playername
      • Remember, you only need to get the first few letters of their name, not their clan tag of course.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the Name & Shame, First Kill, Kill Streak, Ace Player areas where a bug was preventing Enabled & number variables from saving.
  • Fixed the quite common [for everybody but the developers] bug being reported regarding PunkBuster “Incorrect string format
    • It’s cropped up many times after alleged fixes, so I am wary to say I have fixed it. Please inform us if you’re getting it.

I’m having an issue with removing bans from the banlist. It seems every time I try the command status light turns red and the ban is never removed.

  2. GEN3RIC says:

It appears to be a widespread issue that exists in the server code. When you execute banList.remove, it crashes the server and it restarts. This is why you see the red lights. My suggestion is to avoid this feature until DICE issues a comment on it. It will likely require a server patch if they intend to hotfix it.

  3. Fatality UK says:

haha, well it makes sense, I was surprised there hadn’t been anything broken with this patch as is usually the case, but guess the one major bug emerges….

I’ve noticed the pb banlist empties with a server restart, is this also widespread or just our server?

  4. GEN3RIC says:

That’s not all. DICE recommended to stop using admin tools if you’re experiencing lag in your server (well, they only mentioned Wolfcon and PRoCon.. maybe BC2CC isn’t the culprit). I wouldn’t mind if you’d test latency #s with BC2CC connection, and without.

I haven’t heard anything about the PB banlist emptying on restart. PB is always troublesome, I’ll investigate that, but it’s likely not BC2CC’s fault since it’s all stored on the server itself.

It’s too early in the morning for there to be anyone in our server so the pings show as 0, but with the g15 plug in which came with the game it appears to give proper ping which for me never changed when I had the tool connected and not connected.

I had the tool connected most of yesterday along with some other people in our clan and the server was full the whole day with noone reporting lag so it cannot have been a serious issue.

  6. Joker says:

We played on our server yesterday with BC2CC connected and the only lag we experienced concerned the game itself (DICE’s latest patch to be precise). When someone types a message, or if the server sends a message, meaning that the chat screen will pop-up on the top left corner of your screen, you lag for like a half a second. I agree with Fatality, something gets fixed with a patch, something has to be broken :P . As for the latency, we have been using BC2CC since v1.0 and we haven’t experienced any lags caused by it. Pings are fine and normal. Btw, rules displaying on demand is a nice idea. I’ll try it out today.

Apparently updating the server description using the tool now empties the server as I discovered earlier XD Thankfully I had my clan mates on hand to help get it full again :P .

But yeah, now using the rules thing, it’s a very handy feature indeed. It would be cool to to be able to send individual rules to players in the server if they are abusing a certain one.

Also, not sure what is causing this, but when me and another admin are connected and someone types !help it is giving them 2x the info on some of the commands even though the other admin has disabled them all and the public feedback option.

But yea, been on the tool all day and no lag :) . Great job guys, I know you’re probably busy with other things but well I’m sure you won’t mind a few suggestions. Right now the name and shame thing goes off if someone does that to a teammate, it should only be for enemies :P . Also it would be cool for the teamkills to be colour coded in the logs, just the way the kick messages are, you have obviously been able to do it there so I’m sure it would be very easy to implement for tks :P .

But yea, really nice guys :) . Excited for the daemon, but take all the time ya need on it.

I just noticed that when you type “!help”, it says “say !rules for help on name and shame” and well, that’s obviously not what it’s for. Of course this is nothing urgent, you guys can fix it whenever you have the time. Other than that, the “!rules” command works fine (and man that’s a big relief after all the struggling with the task list) So thanks for that.
Also, is there way to set the display period of the message “Scoring disabled due to too few players”
which is displayed when there are less than 4 players on the server?

  9. GEN3RIC says:

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

@Fatality, when you save the server description it crashes the server? I’m not able to reproduce that on my test servers… yet.

We can expand upon the rules object, I’ve taken note of your request.

@Joke, I’ll address the issue you found. Thanks. And there is currently no way to modify the “Scoring disabled…” function built into the server. Unless they’re hiding it from us. ;)

  10. Joker says:

Ohh man, I just realized that BC2CC has to stay open for the auto admin function to work… I didn’t know this :(

Well I guess there is no way for it to work without leaving a PC running all the time, is there?

  11. GEN3RIC says:

    @Joker

That’s the downside of not being able to install admin mods to your server. This is why we are working very hard on getting the daemon ready so it will always be running and your local tool will only be supplementary for everything else (autoadmin, in-game commands, mixed mode maps would be handled by the daemon).

I’ve let several instances of the tool run on up to 10 servers at a time for days at a time and never needed to restart. It might eat up 100-150mb of memory, but 10 servers is a lot more than most will manage.
